At the May 26th meeting the Rio Nuevo District Board initiated a process to procure 5,000 COVID-19 testing kits to provide to restaurants and small businesses within the District TIF boundaries to help offset the expense to the already impacted businesses.
Small retail businesses, and restaurants especially, are required to test employees for COVID-19 prior to allowing them back to work. Many small businesses pay significantly higher costs for a smaller number of tests. This move allows Rio Nuevo to purchase a large quantity of tests at a lower cost and make them available to District merchants. Board Chairman Fletcher McCusker indicated an application process will be developed while the procurement effort is underway.
